Amy Roepke:

Good morning. I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but my husband collects coffee mugs. They take up a lot of space, we actually have a cabinet built just for them, which is nice because they’re out of the way and always clean and ready to use at today’s coffee mug says, If you’re too busy to laugh, you’re too busy. Does that resonate with anybody? Let me know what you think about that.

Then what I want to just talk about real quick today is something that came up last week. So last week, I went on vacation, I went to Orlando, and completely unplugged to my family, had a great time, spent Thanksgiving I in the sun and the fun. And we walked our legs off and saw lots and lots of great things and had a great time. And one of the days that I was relaxing. I started reading a book.

This book was one that was recommended to me that I had downloaded from the library and then forgotten about quite honestly. And I was sitting there in the sun wanting to do something. And I had my phone with me and I opened up my Library app and I said, Oh yeah, there’s this book called, Can’t Even, and I was going to read it. And I forgot. And in that moment, I forgot what the book was about. Forgot that had been recommended to me. I was just interested because I had a book that was ready to read. And I thought it was a fiction book for no good reason.

But I did think it and I opened it, I started reading it. And it is not a fiction book. First of all, it’s a book about burnout. It’s specifically about millennial burnout. But it was so relevant in that moment for me to start reading about burnout, because you may or may not know, but it’s been five years since I took a vacation where I totally unplugged from my business.
In five years, I have had lots of trips that I’ve gone on over the last five years and lots of visits with family and friends and visits for work and for planning my quarterly strategic planning, for example.

But I’m never totally unplugged. Every time I have a break. In the work or the planning. I’m checking my email, I’m responding to clients I’m doing work. Same with when my go visit family and I’m working on the plane and I’m just I’m spending all the time that I’m not relaxing, working. Does that sound familiar? So anyway, here, I was relaxing, not working for the first time in five years.

And I started reading about burnout. And I started reading about the millennials and I didn’t actually get too far into the book before I started having a lot of ideas. And what I wanted to share with you today is if you are feeling burnout. First of all, you’re not alone. A lot of us have been there are there right now are going through it. Burnout is more than just exhaustion.

Burnout is I’m exhausted, yet I keep going. And I go until I am essentially a zombie. Nobody really wants to live their life that way. And I mentioned the millennials because you know millennials, the word millennial is a is a bad word. In the mouth of some people just like the word Boomer is in a bad word of the mouth of some people.

I’m Gen X. So I’m sitting here in the middle kind of watching this ping pong effect going on going like Can’t we all just get along. And if you are an older business owner, then this message for you is let’s work on trying to figure out how to connect with and make abundance with the younger generations, including the millennials. Because those are the people who are going to be the successors in your business.

They’re the ones who are going to carry on your legacy throughout the generations, at least for this generation. So let’s let’s work together, come talk to me because I’m working on it myself to try to figure out how to get all of the generations and all of the different people from all of the different generations to talk to each other and to work together to create more abundance and prosperity for everyone. If you’re a millennial, I have the same message for you.

Let’s work together to figure out how to get you out of burnout. If you’re in burnout and how to get you, I successfully transitioning that business and taking it into that next level that you want to take it and creating a new legacy or building upon the current legacy. Let’s, let’s do it. I’m excited for what I’m learning. I’m excited for breaking through the burnout for all of you and for myself, I and I’m, I’ve come back from vacation with a renewed energy to, to commit to those principles as I work forward and build my own business.

So if this resonated with you, I’d love to hear from you. I’d love for you to just leave a comment or drop me a line. Interact with me interact with my video. Let’s connect. I look forward to talking to you.
